The Riveting Conclusion to the Tale of Love, War, and Divine Intrigue!

In the gripping sequel to "Divine Rivals," "Ruthless Vows" by Rebecca Ross unravels the aftermath of a war that has left Iris Winnow and the city of Oath in turmoil. The echoes of Roman's disappearance linger, and Iris, along with Attie, seizes a perilous chance to report on Dacre's movements, well aware that the conflict is inexorably closing in on an unprepared city.

Key Elements:

  1. 🕊️ Resilience in the Face of War: Two weeks have passed since Iris returned, battered and broken, yet the war persists. With Roman missing, Iris and Attie navigate the dangers once more, knowing the conflict will soon reach an unprepared city under the chancellor's rule.

  2. 📝 Memory's Enigma: Roman, waking in Dacre's realm with no recollection of his past, finds solace in writing for Dacre. As he grapples with his identity, a mysterious letter arrives, sparking a chain of events that will force Roman to choose between loyalty to Dacre or a path that could change the course of the war.

  3. 💌 Correspondence and Connection: A strange letter through the wardrobe door connects Roman with a mysterious pen pal, setting the stage for a delicate dance of intrigue and loyalty. As Roman and Iris draw closer, their destinies become intertwined, risking their hearts and futures for the greater cause.

  4. 🌌 Darkening Days: With the war escalating, Roman and Iris must navigate the increasingly treacherous landscape, facing decisions that will shape not only their own fates but also the outcome of the conflict that rages around them.

I read the first book and was absolutely captured by the story and characters. They were engaging and compelling and the story was so original, I loved everything about it.. I recently read this book, the sequel in the duology, and was so happy to be reminded that there are some excellent, well written and imaginative fantasy YA type books out there! I have been reading a lot of disappointing new fiction lately and this book was a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend this set of books - 5 stars

The crescendo of the book is worth the wait. The culmination of growth of the characters results in an emotional and surprising end. Iris braves the journey with us, hand in hand, through the turmoil of loss and victory. She has lost so much but also found lasting connections and family. This story may have had Gods, but if you look it’s always been about the vitality, perseverance, tenacity, fragility and love in being human.

Ross’ story telling is divine. Beautifully written. Characters you fall in love with. My only issue with those books is was towards the end, it felt a bit choppy.

I remember reading Divine Rivals and feeling entranced. Roman and Iris’s love story was so captivating, and I couldn’t believe that it ended so abruptly. I was worried that the follow up would disappoint, but there was nothing to fear. One of the things I love about Ross’s writing is that it’s like poetry in prose. She weaves words with such skill and no heaviness; the images bloom in front of your eyes. There’s no pretentiousness in anything she writes, and it’s direct enough that it feels like a poem - it’s the old adage, less is more. With this story, I really felt Roman’s anguish at being separated (both of them, really, but Roman vey much stood out to me). I loved the blossoming relationship between Tobias and Attie, and Forest’s redemption arc was so bittersweet to watch. I especially enjoyed that it wasn’t all rainbows. I get annoyed whenever everyone finds a happy ending and everything is wrapped up neatly. I appreciated the honest way that the story ended and how perfectly imperfect the gods were made out to be. Overall, one of my favorite reads from a favorite author. 167397493/5 stars (yes, that many, I cried a bunch)

I loved this series. It was just enough to capture my attention and not be bored between big scenes. The writing was well done.

A beautifully written completion to the Divine Rivals duology (and dulogies are my new fave), following Iris and Roman's love story after their absolutely heart-wrenching ending in the first book. This book continues the world war 2 era vibes, full of typewriters, crank engines, crimped hairstyles and handsome men in pressed suits. Roman and Iris’s love is timeless. They're utterly devoted to one another. The beginning 80% of the book is slow, which I assume is meant to mirror the characters' separation, making it a difficult read to get sucked into initially. Iris begins the story tied to her brother's good intentions and without her husband, while Roman is alone and confused in the underworld without his memories of his previous life. I felt as though this story mirrored the first too closely, as in 'Divine Rivals," Roman once knew who Iris was and fell in love through their writing, and now Iris fills that role. The pacing was a little too slow for my liking, but did begin to escalate in the last 20%. I also couldn't get enough of the Iris and Roman interactions, which felt to few for this hopeless romantic. With that being said, I will never stop recommending this series and look forward to what else Rebecca Ross can give to us.

Immerse yourself once more in the enchanting world crafted by Rebecca Ross in "Ruthless Vows," the captivating finale to "Divine Rivals." Rebecca Ross's skillful storytelling exudes a delightful nostalgic ambiance, pulling readers deeper into the intricacies of the ongoing war between Dacre and Enva. As Iris and Attie embark on a perilous journey, the stakes are higher, and the suspense builds with Roman's mysterious absence. Rebecca Ross's adept character development forges stronger connections with the protagonists, unraveling the complexities of their relationships. The love story between Iris and Roman is written beautifully. "Ruthless Vows" pleasantly surprised me; I enjoyed it even more than "Divine Rivals." It's a marvelously intricate and whimsical tale, drawing me further into the artfully crafted world. Roman's lost memories and the challenges that Iris faces add depth, delivering a satisfying blend of romance, intrigue, and beautifully rendered characters. In summary, "Ruthless Vows" is a thoroughly enjoyable conclusion to the "Divine Rivals" duology. Rebecca Ross's imaginative pen has once again crafted a captivating tale that left me eagerly anticipating her next book. And did you know? Dacre is more than a name, it's a small village nestled in the picturesque Lake District National Park.
